“There is an abundant need in this world for your exact brand of beauty.”
– Lysa Terkeurst
I love this quote by Lysa Terkeurst. It reminds me that we were all created for a reason. We all have a purpose that is worth something. I fully believe we are worth more than what we often think. I believe with my whole heart that God passionately and unconditionally loves us and wants us to understand this truth and keep it close to our hearts.
I chose the name Simply Rooted because I wanted women to understand who they are in Christ and be rooted in the fact that they are children of God.
For me, there was a hard season in life when I learned what it meant to really understand my worth. I know what it’s like to walk around and believe that you are not worth truly being loved, simply because I was not rooted in my identity in Christ.
My sophomore year of college, I met someone who really caught my eye. He was smart, charming, and very cool with his words. He knew exactly how to get everyone to pay attention to him and how to bring in the “dad” jokes to make others laugh. I soon began to date this boy and we were together for almost a year and a half.
Our relationship was filled with many high highs and low lows. I learned how to love someone who didn’t know how to fully love themselves. Our relationship was fun, but it was also one of the hardest seasons I have ever gone through. I learned that in a Godly relationship, the woman was never meant to be the spiritual leader, this is the mans job. The responsibility of spiritual growth will always be on the individual, as the Bible calls us to have our own relationship with Jesus, but the Bible is also very clear, that in a God-honoring relationship the man should always be the spiritual head. I didn’t realize this until I began to grow spiritually without him, which led to burnout and exhaustion in my life as I tried to carry him along with me. This was never a burden I was called to take on. I learned how hard it was to chase after someone who didn’t want to be chased after, not realizing I was never created to do the chasing.
During this relationship, I developed a mindset where I honestly believed this was as good as it was going to get for me. I honestly believed that he was “the one” and these issues in our relationship were normal and everyone walks through them. Throughout this relationship, I began to make a decision that I didn’t believe I was worth a real, honest, and giving relationship. It is in this season where I decided to hear the shouts of the enemy over the whispers of God. I never understood the truth that I had someone in Jesus who believed I was worth everything.
So I walked through this time of brokenness in my life. I began a journey of learning and fully understanding my worth and my identity as a child of God. It was after this season that I developed a passion for helping women understand this to be true in their life as well. I had a calling to help women, young and old, to establish roots in their lives that will help them understand the truth God says about them. The truth of how he loves us, the truth of how he adores every part of who we are because he created us.
You have a Father who believes you are worth sacrificing His own Son for you. You have a Father that says you are worth being chased after. You have a Father who says you are worth far more than the most beautiful thing on earth (Proverbs 3:15).
Simply Rooted is about digging deep with God, digging into those deep parts in our hearts that we don’t let others see. In those moments where we are afraid to let others in because we truly believe we are not worth anybody’s time or effort, God wants us to dig deep, he wants us to know just how much he loves and that he truly wants the best for us.
So next time you begin to think that small thought that no one cares about you, just remember that there is a God who moves mountains for you. There is a loving Father stretching out His hands, longing to bring you into His warm embrace. When the enemy wants you to believe you are worth nothing, remember the truth that you are created to live a life in God’s fullness, a life of joy and freedom, a life that is rooted in the reality that you are His child.
You are strong. You are beautiful. You are full of joy and laughter. You are hand picked and loved by God.
